Do I need to pre-book watercolour classes on board?

No, we don’t offer advance booking for watercolour classes. Simply look in your Daily Programme for details of the class and aim to arrive around 15 minutes before the advertised start time.

What materials do I need for watercolour classes?

You’ll need a selection of brushes, paints, a mixing palette, paper, a pencil and pencil sharpener and an eraser. We provide these materials on board for a one-off fee, charged to your on board account. Alternatively, you are welcome to bring your own art supplies with you.

Are the classes free?

Yes, watercolour art classes on our Cunard Queens are free to attend, providing you have all the necessary materials to take part. If you don’t have your own art supplies, you will need to purchase these from the instructor on board. Once you have the materials you can take part in as many complimentary classes as you like during your voyage.

Get creative on sea days, with watercolour art classes hosted by our on board artist in residence.

On each of our Queens, you’ll have the opportunity to take part in watercolour art classes, hosted each morning and afternoon on sea days. Classes are designed for all ability levels and are equally attended by beginners and more experienced artists alike, so you’re guaranteed to be in good company, even if you’ve never picked up a paintbrush before!

Morning or afternoon, it's up to you

Art classes on our Queens are exclusive to sea days on board and take place twice daily. The first session is typically held after breakfast service in the morning (usually around 10am) and the second takes place in the afternoon, normally around 2pm or 2:30pm. Classes are usually held in the upper level of the Britannia restaurant, although exact times and locations can be found within your Daily Programme once you’re on board your ship.

No paints? No problem!

All the materials you need to take part in our watercolour classes are available on board for a one-off fixed fee, chargeable to your on board account. The set includes brushes, paints, a mixing palette, a watercolour pad, a pencil, eraser, and a pencil sharpener, all of which are yours to keep. All classes are complimentary to attend and once you have your kit you can return as many times as you like. Guests who have their own art supplies are welcome to bring these along free of charge.

Hosted by professional artists

Each watercolour art class is led by a professional artist who has joined the ship for a short residency. Lessons last for approximately one hour; around 20 minutes of which is devoted to mastering technique and the remaining 40 minutes given over to experimentation. At the end of the voyage, you’ll have the option to showcase your creations in an exhibition, open to all guests to attend. You’ll also be free to take your works away with you when you disembark in your home port.

Frequently asked questions about art classes

That’s entirely up to you. Once you’ve purchased your materials there are no further charges in respect of the classes, so you can attend as many as you like at no additional cost. Classes repeat twice daily, giving you the option to attend either the morning or the afternoon session. Different days cover different techniques, but there’s no pressure to attend each day. You’re free to dip in and out as you please.
