This beautiful island has a completely different feel to it compared to the hustle and bustle of central Hong Kong. Browse local handicrafts in pretty boutiques, sip on a cup of coffee in a relaxed café, or enjoy the rural walking trails, discovering WWII Kamikaze Caves and coastal views as you go. 

Visiting Hong Kong on a cruise is a superb way to see this part of the world. While your ship is docked, whether for a few hours or perhaps overnight, you can spend as much time as you like exploring in port – either independently or on a Shore Experience. Hong Kong is an island of diversity, where people of varying religions, cultures, and affluence all reside. Because of this, you’ll see a variety of dress.

In the summer months, Hong Kong can reach highs of around 32 degrees Celsius, so thin layers, dresses, or shorts and t-shirts are appropriate, although nothing too revealing. The winters in Hong Kong are usually fairly mild, sitting at around 15 degrees Celsius, so no need to bring winter woollies.

Should you want to explore the island on foot, be sure to pack comfortable walking shoes and possibly even walking sticks if you’d find them useful. If you’ll be visiting any religious sites in Hong Kong, wear clothing that covers everything from your shoulders to below your knees.

The temperature in Hong Kong generally stays between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius. The colder months are December, January, and February, when the average temperature is around 17 degrees Celsius. The hottest months are June, July, and August, when the average temperature is around 29 degrees Celsius.

Hong Kong International Airport is located on the island of Chek Lap Kok, which is connected to Kowloon mainland via bridges and tunnels. It’s possible to get to the mainland using public transport such as a local ferry, bus, or the MTR (Mass Transit Railway), or you can book a taxi or transfer to the cruise terminal.

The cruise terminal, Kai Tak, is located on Kowloon mainland. It takes about 40 minutes by car, a little longer by bus, or one hour and 40 minutes by MTR to travel between the two. You can find out more about local transport by reading further up this page.

There are two cruise terminals in Hong Kong. The older is Ocean Terminal, located on the west of Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon, on the mainland, and the newer is Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, which is located on the east side of Tsim Sha Tsui. Tsim Sha Tsui is the main hub of Kowloon, and it’s from here that you cross Victoria Harbour to arrive onto Hong Kong island itself.
