The first settlement known as Singapore was formed in the late 13th century on the banks of the Singapore River. Since then, Singapore has continued to grow and thrive.
You cannot leave Singapore without tasting its famous chilli crab, sipping on a Singapore sling, or taking high tea at Raffles.
With diverse culture hubs including Marina Bay, Chinatown, and Little India, Singapore is home to wonderful eateries and stunning temples.
Singapore is a well-loved highlight of our World Voyages on Queen Mary 2 and Queen Anne, and beloved Queen Elizabeth often pays a visit in the spring months too. Whichever your chosen Queen, you are guaranteed a journey of luxury and style, embellished with special Cunard touches and White Star Service.
Singapore's main cruise terminal, Marina Bay Cruise Centre, is situated east of Sentosa Island, on the city's southern edge, around 2 miles (3km) from the city centre. Here there is space for two larger ships to dock in parallel. There is a short covered walk of around 150m between the terminal and the gangway.
The Marina Bay terminal building serves both berths, spans two levels, and includes bathrooms, a currency kiosk and ATMs, a left luggage service, a few small shops and a café. There is also free WiFi and a deck offering airport transfers. Visit the terminal website for more information.
Smaller ships may also dock at the International Cruise Centre, found just north of Sentosa Island at the Harbourfront.
Marina Bay Cruise Centre has a taxi rank with affordable local transport, and an airport transfer service. Uber also operates in Singapore.
The local bus network is dependable and very affordable; one route stops right outside the terminal building and will take you into the city centre in 20 minutes for a couple of Singapore dollars - just make sure you have the right change.
Singapore is also home to the MRT (Mass Rail Transit), an underground railway. The terminal has a station very close by, around a 600m walk: turn right out of the terminal exit, and use the system to head into town.
Singapore's main airport is Changi Airport, situated further east along the coast from Marina Bay Cruise Centre. It is around 25 minutes by car; buses are also available, but may take up to 90 minutes depending on timings. The MRT (Singapore's underground system) also travels between the cruise and airport terminals.
If you disembark in Singapore, the Marina Bay Cruise Centre terminal has a desk that can arrange affordable airport transfers for you; simply enquire when you arrive.
Changi airport offers direct flights to many major cities including Sydney, Perth, London, Paris, Zurich, Houston, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Singapore is the perfect start to a cruise visiting Asian cities or heading west to African shores. Whether you're sailing one of our World Voyage sectors, or looking to immerse yourself in the sights and flavours of the Far East, Singapore is the perfect experience to begin your adventure.
With influences from China, India, Malaysia, England, and more, Singapore offers a fascinating melting pot of cultures and traditions to explore.
Built in the late 1880s, Raffles Hotel is a lasting reminder of Singapore’s colonial past. Famous for the Singapore Sling cocktail, this classic building is a superb spot for taking time out from the hustle and bustle of the outside world. You’ll find more high-end bars and eateries all over Singapore or, for something a little more local, try some ‘hawker food’ (street food), some of which is even Michelin star rated.
Wander along tree-lined streets with some familiar names, from Park Lane to Oxford Street, and admire Singapore’s eye-catching architecture. You’ll see everything from traditional Malay-style houses to modern skyscrapers including the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. Dominating the skyline, this unique building comprises three towers topped by a ship that boasts the world’s largest rooftop infinity pool.
The Gardens by the Bay are another highlight. Showcasing a wonderful blend of natural flora and manmade design, this is truly one of the most novel attractions in Asia. If your voyage includes an overnight stop in Singapore, perhaps explore the gardens after dark, when clever lighting only adds to an already bewitching experience.
Choosing to see Singapore as part of a cruise has a number of advantages. It means you can feel confident and relaxed, knowing you always have stylish accommodation, superb dining opportunities, and world-class entertainment to return to at any time. While you may want to spend as much time as possible in port, exploring everything Singapore has to offer, take comfort from the fact that when you’ve had your fill, your Cunard Queen awaits.
Singapore is a multi-cultural country in which you’ll find people of all kinds of backgrounds, and therefore in a variety of dress.
It stays consistently warm in Singapore throughout the year, with temperatures generally staying within a bracket of around 25 to 30 degrees Celsius. Therefore, when it comes to packing appropriately, it’s advisable to bring cool clothing such as thin dresses, shorts, and t-shirts. A good pair of walking shoes might also be useful if you’d like to explore on foot.
You’ll see religious sites of varying faiths including Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Taoism, and Hinduism, and should you wish to visit any of these it is considered respectful to wear clothing that covers everything from the shoulders to past the knees.
The weather in Singapore is reliably warm if not somewhat humid. The hottest months are February and March, when temperatures reach around 30 degrees Celsius, and the coolest are December and January, which are just a fraction less at around 26 degrees Celsius on average.
Singapore Changi Airport is the main international airport used by visitors to Singapore. It’s located in the east of the island, around 12 miles from the city centre. It takes about 20 minutes by taxi/airport transfer, or up to 1 hour 30 mins by public bus to get to the city centre.
