Open decks on Queen Mary 2

If you enjoy spending time in the fresh ocean air, Queen Mary 2 is the perfect ship to sail on. Several of her decks feature outdoor spaces for guests to enjoy, whether you’re in the mood for a leisurely stroll, a reflective pause, or something more active.

Her teak Promenade Deck, located on Deck 7, is a walker’s delight. The only deck where you can walk full circle to uninterrupted sea views, there’s no better space to stretch your legs. Each lap measures just under a kilometre and there’s a dedicated track for joggers if you want to up the pace. One of the joys of spending time here is seeing what you can spot on your way around, be it a pod of inquisitive dolphins swimming up to say hello or Queen Mary 2’s famous Cufflinks sculptures. Of course, if walking isn’t on your agenda, you can simply grab a deckchair, put your feet up, and watch the world sail on by.

The Sun Deck, located on Deck 13, is a spacious open area that’s ideal for a spot of al fresco sunbathing. Just below, on Deck 12, you can play deck games, including ocean classics such as quoits and shuffleboard. This is also where our four-legged guests can enjoy a stroll during Transatlantic Crossings.

If you’re staying in one of our Princess Grill or Queens Grill Suites, you’ll also be able to make use of Queen Mary 2’s outdoors Grills Terrace on your cruise. Reserved purely for Grills guests, you’ll find this exclusive outdoor space at the aft of the ship, on deck 11. Offering a quiet retreat on sunnier days, it’s a great place to escape into the pages of a book or swap travel tales with fellow Grills guests.

Pools and whirlpools on Queen Mary 2

With a choice of swimming pools and whirlpools among her decks, there’s no shortage of places to enjoy a refreshing dip on board Queen Mary 2.

The Pavilion Pool, housed under a retractable glass roof, offers a tranquil retreat where you can enjoy a taste of the outdoors in all weathers. With a bar serving up drinks and a deck grill where you can enjoy freshly prepared pizza (among other indulgent delights), you could easily spend an entire day here, immersing yourself in the holiday spirit.

On gloriously sunny days at sea, there’s no better space to anchor yourself than the Terrace Pool. Situated at the aft of the ship and featuring a spacious pool deck with ample sun loungers and seating, this open-air spot is the picture of holiday perfection. Float gently in the turquoise water as the sun gently dapples your skin or take a sheltered seat and enjoy the buzz emanating all around you as you relax in your own way.

If you’re sailing with younger guests, a dedicated family pool known as The Minnows pool can be found on deck 6, just outside the children’s clubs. There’s also a smaller ‘splash pool’ here, reserved especially for little swimmers.

Sports and outdoor activities on Queen Mary 2

If you like your days at sea to be more active, you’ll find a range of outdoor spaces and activities to enjoy throughout your Queen Mary 2 cruise.

The Sports Centre, located on deck 13, offers a space where you can enjoy a friendly five-a-side or shoot some hoops on the basketball court. We’ll provide all of the equipment so there’s no need to pack your own balls if you want to make use of these. Queen Mary 2’s outdoor decks also play host to tournaments such as archery and table tennis – great if you want to learn something new or engage with some of your fellow holidaymakers on board.

For keen golfers, there’s an outdoor golf net where you can keep your putting skills sharp while you sail the open sea or, if the weather isn’t playing ball, an indoor golf simulator. A jogging deck is available on deck 7, so you can make the most of pre-breakfast as the sun rises over the water (these moments really are magical).

You’ll also find outdoor deck games to entertain you around the ship, including deck Quoits and Shuffleboard. The rules to these are written up in the playing area, so you’ll soon get up to speed if you’ve new to the game, and there’s no obligation to keep score if you don’t want to. You are on holiday after all!

If you want to workout indoors while on Queen Mary 2, you’ll find a fully equipped fitness centre on Deck 7, where you can exercise independently or with the help of a personal trainer. Fitness classes and health seminars are also hosted here regularly, details of which you can find in your Daily Programme on board.

For more information on our indoor fitness centre visit our Queen Mary 2 wellness page or learn more about the daytime activities you can look forward to on board.
