Alotau, the capital of Milne Bay Province, is a small, laid-back and welcoming town, which is scattered over the hillsides and the bay's northern shore, upon the southeastern tip of Papua New Guinea.
The town lies within the forested foothills of an eastward extension of the Owen Stanley Range. It is a great base from which to explore the capes, coves and islands of Milne Bay.
