Manaus, Brazil cruises

The rubber boomtown Manaus, founded as a Fort in 1669, sits like a time capsule where the dark waters of the Rio Negro and the lighter Rio Solimoes flow side by side before merging to become the Amazon.

With the rubber boom long gone, it seems strange that this city of almost two million people should thrive so deep in the jungle, yet it’s a unique and charming city with its own opera house.
