Classical concerts
The Cunard Queens are home to a wonderful variety of musical entertainment, from sing-along sea shanties and popular hits through the decades, to elegant classical performances.
Why not join to simply sit back and listen to some of your favorite compositions, or perhaps you’ll start to love a few less familiar pieces? Classical takes on mainstream pop songs are also a regular feature.
On selected voyages, you’ll find classical concerts scheduled for sea days, in the early afternoon. Should you wish to go along to these, be sure to keep an eye on your Daily Programme to find out all the information you need.
Classical concerts are usually held in the Queens Room or Royal Court Theatre. Sometimes, on Queen Mary 2, they may also be hosted in Illuminations, the planetarium. Your Daily Programme will contain all the details you need.
Yes, in addition to the larger-scale classical concerts, you’ll find smaller events dotted around the ship. It could be a harpist in the Grand Lobby, providing a smooth and subtle soundtrack as you enjoy a pre-dinner drink. It could be a string ensemble, adding to the sense of occasion at Afternoon Tea in the Queens Room. Not forgetting the resident pianist in the Commodore Club, on hand to set the tone with renditions of music you recognize but can’t quite put your finger on.
In addition to these classical options, you’ll find everything from jazz bands to contemporary guitarists – and everything in between. Each ship is home to all kinds of different performers, who’ll entertain you in venues all over. You’ll find information about what’s on and when, in your Daily Programme.
Should you wish to showcase your own vocal skills on board, on some voyages you’ll have the opportunity to join a special guest choir. Usually, this will be led and arranged by Royal Court Theatre Company vocalists, and you’ll sing alongside a piano accompaniment. Check your Daily Programme for the precise details, but ordinarily, you’ll find rehearsals on sea days, leading to a popular performance at the end of your voyage.
